The reality of the 21st century is upon us. Values are being eroded and Church meetings are being reduced to social gatherings and club outings. Fellowships that have “strong brands” and “high swag” but small spiritual content seem to command great following. Movies, brands, social media and the Internet seem to communicate a singular message which is “if it feels good, do it!”. Scandals rock the world, from the pinnacles of conservative religious orthodox powerhouses to cosmopolitan Pentecostal assemblies. Co-habiting is now the norm across the globe with teenage girls and boys living and exploring together while pursuing undergraduate and post graduate studies. Values are being eroded. Youths enter and exit relationships at the speed of thought. By age 20, several waters have passed under the bridge. Supposed future leaders would have explored kissing, smooching, masturbation and pornography using various means including mobile devices, blackberries, IPADs, laptops..etc. Welcome to the 21s century!
In over a decade of working with young people, I have observed that many are losing the battle with immorality and pre-marital sex. The enemy has unleashed this age-old weapon against this generation but can we find the last virgins standing? Are we going to find young men and women who would gladly say “I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE CROSS. I am going to present my most precious physical endowment in its original state to my spouse on my wedding night with great Joy”. Will this be your pledge or shall your wedding night be a moment of truth and confessions?
Jeremiah 35:3-10 NKJ
3 Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, his brothers and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites,
4 and I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door.
5 Then I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups; and I said to them, “Drink wine.”
6 But they said, “We will drink no wine, for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying,`You shall drink no wine, you nor your sons, forever.
7 `You shall not build a house, sow seed, plant a vineyard, nor have any of these; but all your days you shall dwell in tents, that you may live many days in the land where you are sojourners.’
8 “Thus we have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, or our daughters,
9 “nor to build ourselves houses to dwell in; nor do we have vineyard, field, or seed.
10 “But we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.
Here is a classic example of young people who received instructions from their father and kept it. See God’s statement on the sons of Jonadab.
Jeremiah 35:12-14 (NKJ)
12 Then came the word of the LORD to Jeremiah, saying,
13 “Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel:`Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, “Will you not receive instruction to obey My words?” says the LORD.
14 “The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, which he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; for to this day they drink none, and obey their father’s commandment. But although I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking, you did not obey Me
We have God’s clear instructions on this matter.
See Proverbs 6:23-29 (NKJ)
3 For the commandment is a lamp, And the law a light; Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
24 To keep you from the evil woman, From the flattering tongue of a seductress.
25 Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, Nor let her allure you with her eyelids.
26 For by means of a harlot A man is reduced to a crust of bread; And an adulteress will prey upon his precious life.
27 Can a man take fire to his bosom, And his clothes not be burned?
28 Can one walk on hot coals, And his feet not be seared?
29 So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; Whoever touches her shall not be innocent.
God desires for us to walk in His path. He wants truth to dwell in our inward part. Can God present us as shining examples of purity to a dying world? Do not be locked up in the web of sexual bondage. Find the freedom that Christ offers today. It is time to make a long lasting commitment to purity.
